VEPU.APP GUIDE

How to calculate affiliate commission and profit

Affiliate revenue is not the same as profit. This guide explains the estimate shown by Vepu.app's browser-based calculator and which costs you may need to add yourself.

1. Enter the sale price and expected sales

Use the product price relevant to your estimate and the number of orders you expect to be eligible for commission. Gross sales value is the entered price multiplied by the entered sales count. This is a revenue estimate, not the money paid to the affiliate, and it may not match finalized reports after cancellations or returns.

2. Enter the commission rate

Enter the commission percentage that applies to the product or campaign. Estimated commission is gross sales value multiplied by that rate. Check the actual terms in your affiliate dashboard because rates may vary by product, creator, campaign, or order status. The calculator does not retrieve commission rates from a marketplace account.

3. Include advertising and other costs

Add campaign advertising spend and any other expenses you want to include, such as production, samples, shipping you paid, editing services, or tools. The calculator subtracts the two cost fields from estimated commission. If a cost is omitted, the displayed result will look higher than the profit after that cost.

4. Understand the result fields

Gross sales is price times sales. Estimated commission is gross sales times commission rate. Total entered costs are advertising plus other costs, and estimated net profit is commission minus those costs. The tool's ROI on entered costs is net profit divided by entered costs, multiplied by 100. If costs are zero, ROI is shown as unavailable rather than dividing by zero.

5. Read the break-even estimate carefully

Break-even sales estimates how many commission-earning orders would cover the entered costs, based on price and commission rate. It uses the next whole sale when the costs do not divide evenly. If the commission per sale is zero while costs are non-zero, the calculator cannot estimate a break-even number. Actual results can differ because of returns, taxes, platform rules, and commission adjustments.

6. Review assumptions before making decisions

Use estimates to compare scenarios, not as accounting records or guarantees. Enter realistic sales counts and include all relevant costs. If you pay for ads, calculate results by campaign as well as across the overall period. For tax reporting, payouts, refunds, or financial decisions, compare the estimate with the marketplace statements and your own records.

Example

Suppose an item sells for 100 currency units, the commission rate is 10%, and 20 eligible sales are expected. Estimated gross sales would be 2,000 and commission would be 200. If entered campaign costs total 80, estimated net profit would be 120 and ROI on those entered costs would be 150%. The example excludes any costs or deductions that were not entered.
